In the village of Monteluna, located in the heart of South America, life is peaceful. The villagers attend church on Sundays, farm the land, trade with neighboring villages, and live their lives in a calm and harmonious way. This idyll is about to be shattered, however, as a new and budding cartel attempts to carve out a better future through drug money.

The game features two sides: the civilians and the police. Although there are only two sides in the game, this doesn't mean there are only two types of players. The game designers have ideas for civilian roles, but we also encourage players to come up with their own ideas for how they can bring the game world to life. Could you, or your group, be church members, traders, farmers, foreign agents, cartel members, police assistants, or even journalists?

In the civilian village, there is a resource system where civilians must maintain their resources by finding or crafting them. The game offers bullets, but civilian players will initially be provided with very few, and as per the game's concept, many civilian players may play the entire game without weapons.

La Larga Noche focuses on LARP elements, community upkeep, the growing threat of the cartel, and the authorities' efforts to prevent the rise of crime. We hope that more civilians play, at least for most of the time, without weapons and with integrity. In the game world, it is not expected that every player acts solely in their own interest, ready to betray everyone at any given moment.

Factions

Police 

• The police maintain peace in the village, protect the village's resources, manage bureaucracy such as gun permits, and aim to prevent the rise of the cartel.
• Police officers are identifiable by their black and dark blue uniforms, body armor or light vests, and police badges.
• Their armament includes a limited number of assault rifles and submachine guns, as well as pistols, shotguns, and hunting rifles.

Civilians 

• Civilians run the daily life and community of Monteluna.
• Within the civilian faction, there are many different roles and tasks. You can create your own storyline or contact the game masters for ideas.
• Generally, a good group size for civilians is 2-5 people, but solo players are also welcome!
• Civilians dress in civilian clothing or semi-military attire suitable for their role.
• Civilians are rarely armed, and legal weapons are even rarer—usually family heirlooms like bolt-action rifles, revolvers, and rusty shotguns.
• The cartel may have illegal heavy weapons, but police permits for such items are hard to come by.

Each player  fills out acharacter survey, either alone or with their group, which maps out their stance towards the cartel and the authorities, as well as their role or role preferences in society. This helps us balance the society so that not every player is automatically against the police and in favor of the cartel. The game designers have plenty of ideas and thoughts on special roles that civilians could have in Monteluna's society, but we are absolutely open to hearing players' own ideas! Quick players will have a head start with special roles, and we hope for as wide a variety of roles as possible.

Well-functioning roles and communities may even become separate factions in future games, should the game continue!
